The Siddons name has been synonymous with manufacturing excellence in Australia for more than 70 years. The iconic Sidchrome spanner business, then located in the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill, was founded by the late Royston Siddons prior to World War II to assist in the war effort.
Any Australian over the age of 50 would likely remember the famous Sidchrome jingle“You Canna Hand A Man A Granda Spanner”. Sidchrome was sold to Stanley Black & Decker, Inc in the 1990s.
Other well-known businesses followed including Ramset Fasteners, Welding Industries of Australia and Raypak Heaters, which were divisions of the public company Siddons Ramset Limited. This company was sold to Illinois Tool Works (ITW) at the turn of the 20th Century.
